Even you are not a cosmology student you should have heard about black hole,previous year we got a image of it to.So what are they?How we find them?How do they actually look like?Lets discuss first lets come to the origin, they are formed by explosion of a star called as super nova when its core become unstable.
So you have a doubt that even our sun is a star this means that our sun will also become a black hole at its last stage.But the thing is that for a star to become a black hole should have a mass 20 times that of our sun.
Even though they have such mass they should have a core mass size 1.4 times of the sun after supernova explosion else there will become a neutron star.
So this is how black hole forms ,now lets see how to they look like
This image is a theorized image of Einstein relativity theory ,in this the outer circle is termed as event horizon and if something cross this region will be sucked by the black hole's singularity.
So what is a singularity?
It is the point where all the mass a compress to a single point .This means that volume will become zero
We know that d=m/v, then density becomes infinity.
This makes a black hole have extreme gravitational force so that even light can't escape from it
One fun fact :
Consider that your friend crosses the event horizon and you see him from a distance telescope. at this time your friend will be sucked into pieces but you see him just
staying in event horizon .
This is because since the black hole bend space time extremely . the time around will be slow then yours and the radio waves from him will take years to reach you.
So now see how can we take a picture of it
As i said that even light can't able to escape from it so how come scientist were able to take a picture of it.
There are two ways
1 When a star get suck or change in its speed due to black holes immense space time bending
2 .Next is that recording the radio waves from the gases which are located at its event horizon.
This was the method used by scientist to get a image of a black hole on April 10 2018 which is located 55 million light years from us.
